Poetry and Prose

The village of Sag Harbor has long been a literary town. The works of Herman Melville, John Steinbeck, E.L. Doctorow, Betty Friedan, Spalding Gray, and Colson Whitehead were all inspired by its history and tranquil beauty on Gardiners Bay.

We met weekly at the John Jermain Memorial Library and wrote poems and stories under the diffuse light from the Rotunda’s dome. We banded together to reignite the pleasure that writing brings, the playfulness and surprise good writing engenders, and the pure joy of creation and sharing, initially among ourselves, and now with you.

Dara Berger, Joan Butler, Barbara Colasuonno, Kate Ermilio, Carol Morgan, Rebecca Jones, Mira Johnson, Mary Ellen Roche, Michael Ruesga Kohler, Mary Ellen Schelz, and Barry Silverstein are not yet household names. Through The Rotunda, however, they one day may be.
